A prison warder at Eldoret GK remand prison has shot dead an inmate following a disagreement.
Oliver Ochieng was shot dead by the yet to be known prison warden officer at the highly guarded correctional facility.
It is alleged that the deceased defied orders from the prison officer to sit down in a group of other inmates for routine counting.
According to one of his colleagues who declined to be named, Oliver defied the order and instead walked to a secluded place in the prison compound to pray.
“Ochieng was a reformed, God fearing and obedient inmate who was dedicated to prayer every morning, lunch time and evenings. He did not deserve the killing,” said his colleague.
Talking to Mwanhabari.co.ke at the facility, he called for thorough investigations to unravel the circumstances under which their colleague was killed, terming the action inhuman.
A spot check by MH reporter at the correctional facility showed that the inmates had started a go slow to protest the death of their colleague who died in unclear circumstances.
The inmates who have since refused to take meals at the facility claim Oliver Ochieng was brutally killed in what is suspected to have been a disagreement with the prison ward officer.
A senior prison officer at the correctional facility, who sought anonymity, said that investigations have already been launched into the matter.
“We have already launched investigations into the death of the inmate and the truth will come out soon,” he said.
