There is a silent jostling for power in Nyanza. The Former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga, the enigma of Kenya’s politics knows this all too well.
At 78 years of age, the son of Kenya’s former Vice President, Mzee Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, knows that he may no longer have the energy and gusto he used to have – to roar and kick ass.
This is probably why the young and agile cocks, the likes of Dr. Evans Kidero has been emboldened to the extent he has prophesied the death of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party by 2027.
How dare you – Kidero.
Tom Ojienda (Kisumu), Shakeel Shabir (Kisumu Town East) and Caroli Omondi (Suba South), Elisha Odhiambo (Gem), Gideon Ochanda (Bondo) Phelix Odiwuor aka Jalango (Langata) and Mark Nyamita (Uriri) recently also showed some defiance towards Baba – when they met President William Ruto, Raila’s political nemesis.
Truth is that Raila is the singular pillar that has held the Orange Democratic house for the last many decades – but there comes a time when the centre can no longer hold.
“Only time will beat Raila, because time always wins, and not these teenage cocks running around in their father’s compound, chasing chicks,” says Paul Oywa, a staunch supporter of Raila.
The Kidero said this on February 22: “Raila has served his time, in 2012 ODM will be dead, and the only people who will go back to parliament are the nine members of parliament who went to meet President Ruto.”
Raila Odinga will be 82 years old in 2027. Is Kidero trying to cement himself as the next Luo Kingpin? The jury is out.
