A student from a school in Kipkelion, Kericho County, is in mourning after a student died on Monday morning, March 14, just shortly after sitting for the first examination paper.
According to Kericho County Commissioner John Kamua Karungo, the student reportedly collapsed and died minutes after commencing English test.
The Kenya Certificate of Secondary School Education (KCSE) started this morning, Monday 14 – and will continue for the next few weeks.

1. In 2018: A female student by the name Kith Mong’are aged 17 years collapsed and died moments after finishing the Mathematics Paper One. He was a student at Gesiaga Mixed Secondary School in West Mugirango Constituency, Nyamira. He was rushed to Nyamira Maternity and Nursing Home where he was declared dead.
2. In 2019: A student at Memba mixed Secondary school in Rarieda, Siaya County, died after collapsing in a Chemistry Paper 2 test. The student collapsed after sitting for a practical exam on Friday November 15, 2019.
2. In 2021: A chief in Sala location in Tana River, identified as Abdi Bute Sure, and who was sitting for his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam at Hola Boys Secondary School in Tana River County collapsed and died in the exam room.
