The battle lines have been drawn in Nairobi for the forthcoming Mwalimu National Sacco – Nairobi Branch delegate elections.

The race has gained momentum after the organisers settled on February 11, 2023, as the election day.

“This is going to be the election of the decade, here in Nairobi,” a teacher who only identified himself as Mwalimu John told Mwanahabari.

According to John, this could just be one of the highly contested elections in the history of Nairobi.

“We have the old guard who want to stick in the office, fighting against the new blood. I have a feeling many people want change, myself included. However, all that will happen on the ballot,” said John.

One specific team – Team Mos Mos – is already creating serious shockwaves in staff rooms in nearly every school in Nairobi.

The team prides itself as a coalition of equals, and brought together three aspirants, all of them fresh, with a common dream – a dream of service to the teacher.

Team Mos Mos has Madam Scholastica Muange, the current Deputy Principal Academics, Ruaraka High School. Schola is an experienced teacher. She has more than 20 years teaching experience.

She is down-to-earth, approachable, likeable and with immense passion to make MNS better. In her, experience, passion, excellence, tolerance and unity are her strong points.

Then there is Emmanuel Okuna who is currently teaching at Dagoreti High School. Mr Okuna is a common name in the field of sports, having previously taken his teams up to the East Africa games. Okuna is smart, sharp and robust.

Lastly, there is Victor Mairura who currently teaches at Parklands Arya Girls. Mairira teaches History. He is also a trainer of Music. Victor is passionate, approachable and a go-getter. The boy is simply good.

The three individuals say they are passionate about MNS, and that is why they campaign together.

The team is hopeful of winning the Delegates positions so they can bring positive impact to the stakeholders.

They will, however, have to fight it out with the old guard, who many feel may have overstayed, and have thus reached the end of their tether.

“We need fresh ideas, a new sense of direction. Personally, I would like to see what team Mos Mos will deliver,” another teacher from Nairobi, who only identified herself as Madam Mary, told Mwanahabari.
