The battle for the Migori Gubernatorial seat is hotting up with 10 politicians having already shown interest.
Those who have shown interest already include Woman Representative Pamela Odhiambo, former Nyatike MP Edick Anyanga, former Migori MP John Pesa, US-based don Prof Mark Ogutu, businessmen Seth Odongo, Philip Mwabe and Owiso Ngao.
Others are former Rongo MP Dalmas Otieno, Migori senator Ochilo Ayacko and County assembly speaker Boaz Okoth. There is also the county secretary Christopher Rusana who declared his interest in the gubernatorial seat as early as 2019.
And just recently, County Secretary Rusana was endorsed by Suna Community elders to be the gubernatorial candidate come 2022 – a move that did not go down well with the rest of the fold who would cherish such an endorsement which was done at a meeting in Kisii.
Pamela Odhiambo poured scorn on the move terming it unacceptable.
“Let us meet at the ballot,” a furious Pamela had said – sentiments that were shared by former Migori MP John Pesa.
“We were a select technical team mandated to pick a candidate, we did our report after the meeting and today we have handed it over to Suna elder chairman Riogi Riogi. Our work is done,” said the Pentecostal Evangelical Faith of Africa (PEFA) secretary John Okinda.
The Secretary of Pentecostal Evangelical Faith of Africa (PEFA) John Okinda who led a team of six opinion leaders from the Suna clan from Suna East and Suna West constituencies noted that they saw it fit to have one of their people run for the seat.
“If we let them go for the same position, Suna Community votes will be split and we will lose,” Mr, Okinda said at the Kisii meeting.
Rusana on his part said that he will do everything to win the hearts of the people of Migori.
“As much as I wish that the governor endorses me, I will be going flat foot to look for votes from the residents. I don’t rely on any endorsement,” said Rusana.
