Teachers in Kenya are waiting with bated breath on the resolution of a meeting between their unions and the Teachers Service Commission.
Reports indicate that the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) and the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) are pushing to ensure teachers get increased salaries and allowances.
The two unions are pushing TSC to review the current 2021-202 collective bargaining agreement (CBA).
Just last week, the unions met the employer and have since initiated the talks – and tabled their proposals.
If accepted, teachers under KNUT fold will get 60 percent increment – while the those under KUPPET will get 42 percent.
Mwanagari.co.ke understands that the two unions are pushing for different percentages.
Teachers have not had their salaries reviewed upwards since 2016.
