BBI Rulling: Court Of Appeal Lists Individuals Allowed In Court

Announcement from the Court of Appeal has indicated that only 16 lawyers will be allowed to physically attend the Friday, August 20, session when it will be delivering its verdict on Building Bridges Initiative.

The country has been eagerly awaiting the Court of Appeal ruling on the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) that has divided opinion across the citizenry.

According to the announcement, the State, The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s side, will have eight advocates, while economist and firebrand supporter of DP William Ruto, Mr David Ndii’s side, will have an equal number of advocates.

A seven-judge bench comprising Court of Appeal President Daniel Musinga, Justices Hannah Okwengu, Patrick Kiage, Fatuma Sichale, Gatembu Kairu, Roselyne Nambuye and Francis Tuiyot have been writing judgement for the last 50 days on the matter around BBI – after the submissions in June.

The matter was brought before them after a five-judge bench in the High Court comprising of Justices Ngugi, Odunga, Ngaah and Matheka, Mwita declared the BBI move to amend the 2010 Constitution as unconstitutional.

Kenyans will be waiting with abated breath to find out what the Appeal rulling will be in a matter that has pitted Deputy President William Ruto against his boss President Uhuru Kenyatta.
