Parliament has suspended Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro after he made damaging remarks alleging that his colleagues were bribed to pass the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).
National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi announced Nyoro’s suspension, stating that he will stay suspended for four consecutive sittings.
Muturi cautioned other legislators noting: “I urge you to read the Hansard, and do not name a member in the plenary without a substantive motion, or you will be in violation of House standing orders.”
Ndindi was summoned to explain and defend himself having made remarks that painted the House in bad light. He is said to have owned up to his mistake of making such demeaning remarks on his colleagues without a substantive motion.
Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria was also called to defend himself having made similar pronouncements that hurt the image of the members and the House.
The two were cited for remarks they made alleging that MPs were ‘paid Ksh100,000 each to vote for the BBI’ when the report was recently tabled in the August House.
“I called them not only sellouts and cowards, but also intimidated, and now I call them sycophants who betrayed Kenyans,” Nyoro had said.
He said he had evidence to back up his claims of bribery, dishonesty, and State capture.
Kuria was accused of trivializing the matter after he claimed that the bribe money came from the office of the Leader of the Majority.
A furious Muturi cautioned Kuria stating: “Moses Kuria what are you doing? You are now trivialising this matter, this is not a market in Gatundu.”
Muturi, however, cleared Kuria noting that he made the remarks outside the confines of parliament.
“Kuria is free to make whatever remarks he wants, and since I haven’t heard them here, there are no further proceedings against Kuria.”
