TSC Reveals Tribe & Details of Teachers Hired In 2023

A report released by the Parliamentary Service Committee (PSC) has revealed some shocking information.

According to the report, most teachers who were employed by the Teachers Service Commission came from the tribes of Kalenjins, Luhyas and Kikuyus.

TSC CEO Nancy Macharia submitted the report to the Select Committee on National Cohesion and Equal Opportunity.

A total of 36,000 teachers were hired in 2023. Out of this number, 4,048 (10%) were Kalenjins.

Luhya (3,187), Kikuyu (2,913), Luo (2,576), Kisii (1,737) and Meru (1,122).

TSC said it will hire 20,000 more teachers in the 2023/2024 financial year once approved by the National Assembly.

The teachers are aged between 21 and 56 years, most of them are aged 28 years or thereabout.

A total of 43 percent of the hired teachers are female, while the men are 57 percent.

The recruitment came after President William Ruto promised to hire fill the 110,000 gap shortage of teachers.
