Kiambaa Election: Ruto’s Party Celebrate Major Win

Deputy President William Ruto’s party United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has won the Kiambaa by-election.

The announcement was made by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on Friday, July 16.

UDA candidate Njuguna Wanjiku got 21,773 votes against Jubilee Party candidate Kariri Njama who secured 21, 263 votes.

“It has been a journey and I want to thank the Kiambaa people for entrusting me with their votes and for giving me an opportunity to serve them for the next one year. It has been a tough journey. There was a lot of voter bribery and intimidation but finally, God has granted us the win and we are very happy,” Njuguna said after the win.

Earlier, Jubilee won the Muguga Ward seat – with UDA candidate conceding defeat.

The win is a big blow to president Uhuru Kenyatta as this could be a taste of what is to come in 2022.
