Top Student in 2012 KCSE Dies Mysteriously, Family Reveals Last Moments

Kenyans are mourning the death of  Edgar Tony – who was the best student countrywide in the 2012 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).

Edgar died last night at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching & Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) where he had been admitted in critical condition.

According to his cousin Richard Odol, Edgar, a very brilliant young man, had left their house to go for a stroll in Homa Bay town on Tuesday, August 10, a few hours before curfew time – and was to be back home by 10pm.

“Edgar left home alone but failed to return home by 10pm. I understand he had rushed to Homa bay town,” Odol told Mwanahabari.co.ke

The family waited for their young son to return home in vain – and began to worry.

They would later receive a call that forever changed their lives.

“Someone called the family from Homa Bay District hospital informing us that a patient in critical condition had been taken to the facility. That is when our mother and other family members rushed to to the hospital only to find Edgar.”

“He could not talk as he had been sedated.

“The family later transferred Edgar to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching & Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) in Kisumu for specialised treatment,” said Odol.

Edgar was admitted at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the JOOTRH where he unfortunately died last night.

“No one knows what happened to Edgar. He never spoke a word to anyone. We are at a loss. He was the brightest kid of the family,” Odol said.

“The bruises were so deep, but we are not yet aware whether the injuries were inflicted by assailants or after an accident.”

Edgar returned to Kenya in 2020 after he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from Yale University in the US.

He eulogised the late as a brilliant young man, full of life. Tony passed away months after graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from Yale University in the US.

The former Maseno High School student scored a mean grade of A with 89.86 points.
