It has emerged that immigration and airport officials demanded that Deputy President William Ruto produce his birth certificate and a letter from his area Chief before he could be allowed to fly out to Uganda.
A number of politicians who had accompanied Ruto to the airport where he was supposed to board a chopper to Entebbe Uganda, told the media that the Deputy President was mistreated by junior government officials.
“It was bad. The DP was told to seek clearance from the Head of Public Service Joseph Kinywa, but when he called him, he didn’t get help,” Kiharu MP Ndindi told the media.
Ruto is said to have waited for five hours at the airport as he tried in vain to be cleared to travel to Uganda.
According to Nyoro, even calls made to Interior CS Fred Matiang’i did not help.
Ruto left for Karen angry
Ruto gave up after a long wait – and returned to his Karen home foaming at the mouth.
Some of the officials at the immigration and airport officials allegedly asked the DP to identify himself before he could be allowed to travel.
“It is embarrassing for junior officials to ask the DP to produce his birth certificate to fly out of the country,”one of the Ruto’s allies bemoaned.
Ruto arrived at the Wilson Airport at 1pm ready to fly out to Uganda for a private engagements, but was stopped.
Speaking about the incident, Ruto’s Communication Secretary David Mugonyi said Ruto arrived at Wilson Airport, but were asked to seek clearance from the Head of Public Service and Secretary to the Cabinet Joseph Kinyua.
This has never happened before
“When he got to the airport, he was asked to seek clearance from Kinyua. We are surprised. This has never happened in the last nine years,” he said.
Ruto took to twitter to express his disaffection saying: “Isorait…Tuwachie Mungu.”
Ruto’s right hand man Kipchumba Murkomen claimed that Ruto was being targeted just because he beat Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee in Kiambaa by-election.
“President has blocked the DP from performing his official duties and now he is blocking him from his private engagements this is a ridiculous show of deep sense of insecurity and tactlessness,” he tweeted on Monday evening.
On his part, Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi wrote: “Our flight was scheduled for midday, but the so-called Deep State failed to clear the DP for the trip.”
Ruto was accompanied by MPs Sudi, Ndindi Nyoro (Kiharu) and Benjamin Tayari (Kinango), Harun Aydin, Dr David Langat Bett, Dr Eric Ruto and Elijah Rono.
