Police: Four Youths Who Perished In Namanga Morning Accident Were Drunk

Four family members died on the spot and another sustained serious injuries after their Toyota V8 hit a trailer from behind along the Namanga – Kajiado road.

The accident occurred on Monday – and involved a trailer of Scania make and a black Toyota V8 KCJ 435S.

According to witnesses, the two vehicles were headed towards Kajiado when the accident happened.

“The Toyota V8 was speeding towards Kajiado and hit the trailer from behind,” a source told Mwanahabari.

Kajiado Central Assistant police commander Joseph Mutira confirmed the incident – noting that the Toyota V8 was carrying members of the same family.

According to the officer, the family members were aged between 24 and 27 – and may have been drunk.

One person sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Namanga hospital for treatment.

Mutira warned drivers to be careful whenever they are on the road.

The bodies of the four were taken to Kajiado Referral Hospital morgue.

The vehicle was towed to Namanga Police station.

4,121 Kenyans died on the roads in 2021

According to a survey done by the National Transport and Safety Authority in December, 4,121 people had died on the roads as of November 30, 2021, compared to 3,478 who died in the same period in 2020.

This was an 18.5 per cent increase in road fatalities as of November 30, 2021.

Most of the accidents are caused by drunk driving, driving faulty vehicles, speeding, violation of rules, failure to understand signs, fatigue, alcohol among others.
