A family from Nyanza is looking for their sister and her four adopted children at the Shakahola village, in Kilifi County.
According to the family, the sister who had built a home in Nairobi had moved to Shakahola sometime in late 2022 – to join Pastor Mackenzie whom she had been following.
“She left her house to her younger sister after her husband died of cancer, and relocated to Malindi to live with among the congregants of her church,” said a source close to the family.
“The last time we spoke to our sister was in January 2023. We have not been able to reach her on phone since January, and we are worried,” said a close relative.
The woman is said to have been doctrine to an extent she had stopped her adopted children from attending school and hospital.
According to the family, their sister lost her husband to cancer – and partly because he had stopped using the conventional medicine believing that prayers would heal him.
“She stopped her husband from taking the modern cancer medicine, because they were relying on prayers and fasting. The husband died and was buried,” said the relative.
The sister who had no children of her own, was living with four children she had adopted.
“She had no child of her own, but had brought in four children into her family. She went with the children to Kilifi, to Pastor Mackenzie’s church I believe,” she said.
The family is currently in Kilifi trying to find their daughter. It is not clear if she is alive – or dead.
According to the Kenya Red Cross, 112 people have been reported missing so far.
Meanwhile, 58 dead bodies have been found in various graves in Shakahola village, in Kilifi County.
