Monica Juma:  The Only Uhuru Minister Ruto Has Retained

BY MWANAHABARI REPORTER

As was expected, President William Ruto sent home all the Cabinet Ministers who served in the previous administration of President Uhuru Kenyatta.

One lady however, Monica Juma, one time Cabinet Minister for Defence in Uhuru’s government, remained, albeit as an advisor on matters of National security.

Hon Aden Duale, is the new Cabinet Minister for Defence.

But why did Ruto retain Monica Juma, and not former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, or the non-nonsense Education CS, Prof George Magoha – for that matter?

A source told Mwanahabari that Juma has a reservoir of experience in matters security, and is a hard worker, not a politician.

She was at some point Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, served as the Principal Secretary in the Department of Interior, Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government, and was Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Defence at some point.

“Defence is a very sensitive spot, and Duale no doubt needs someone who can help him to bed in, and even understand the whole matrix of national security, and even the issue of Kenya Defence Forces in Somalia,” said the source.
