A footballer attached to Mingo FC collapsed and died mysteriously during a friendly match at Sori Grounds in Karungu, Migori County.
The player who has been identified as Oscar, and aged 23, walked to the side of the pitch during the Sunday, August 22 match – and sat on the edge as if to catch his breath.
According to Mingo FC team captain who spoke to the media, Oscar lay down on the side of the pitch, on his back, and never woke up again.
He said that the match referee rushed to check on him and that when he realised that the player had lost consciousness.
It was then that he raised alarm prompting his team officials to rush hm to the nearby Sori Health Centre, where he was unfortunately pronounced dead.
His body was then transferred to Kokeyo nursing home.
Mingo FC was playing against Rachar FC, in a friendly match at Sori Grounds.
Mingo were leading 1-0 before the incident happened.
