The Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (Kuppet) has announced that teachers working in places they consider very far from their home areas can now seek transfers.
The Kuppet Secretary General Mr. Akelo Misori those who are happy in their stations have a choice to remain.
Misori said: “We have agreed with our employer that all teachers who were delocalised should apply for transfers.”
“We have three national exams in waiting so instead of interfering they can express the interest then it will be dealt with in January,” he said.
The announcement comes at a time when many are calling for some reorganization at the Teacher’s Service Commission (TSC).
TSC has been accused of high-handedness in dealing with teachers – including in its delocalisation policy which commenced in 2018.
There is a feeling that the policy disrupted teachers’ lives, especially those that were nearing retirement.
