Detectives have finally arrested a 40-year-old mas alleged to be the prime suspect in the heinous murder of four young men in Kitengela on August 8.
According to the Director of Criminal Investigations (DC), Mr Benson Melonyie ole Mungai was arrested at his hideout in Kitengela town on Monday evening, August 16.
He is alleged to have masterminded the killings.
Mungai’s arrest comes a few days after DCI took over investigations into the murders and moved with speed to pursue the killers.
Ole Mungai was positively linked to the brutal killings after forensic investigations placed him at the scene of the crime, where it was established that he led and coordinated the killing of the four.
In custody
“Detectives are in pursuit of the rest of the killers, as Ole Mungai remains in custody to assist us with further investigations. Should you have any information that you would wish to share with us anonymously, kindly #FichuakwaDCI through our toll free line 0800722203. Usiogope!” stated the statement read by the DCI.
Meanwhile, questions have been raised as to why it took days for the news about the killings to come out with others pointing an accusing finger to the police for trying to cover up the incident.
“The four young men were lynched on Saturday, August 8. The matter only came to light on Thursday, August 12.
“This points to serious coverup, especially when you consider that police removed the bodies from the scene of crime at 11 pm that night.
“Was there a conspiracy between the local community and the police, to put the matter under wraps and hope that the incidence dies down? What deal, if any, was cut between police and the local community, to maintain a wall of silence?” wondered a resident who did not wish to be named.
