Over 800 Kenyans who had renounced their citizenship in favor of other countries have had their application to get back their Kenyan citizenships granted.

The Ministry of Interior and National Administration cleared 808 applications that had been waiting on the list since 2018.

An additional 815 applications for citizenship specifically made by spouses and children of Kenyan Citizens were also granted.

“It is important that we do this because it will strengthen the social fabric of Kenyan society by promoting the family unity,” Interior CS Prof. Kithure Kindiki.

This brings to 1,698 total applications for citizenship cleared just this week.

It is not clear why the government of Uhuru Kenyatta had left the numbers to pile since 2018.

The CS said that decisions on all applications for Citizenship, Permanent Residency and Work Permits will be processed within 21 days from the date of application.
