Kisumu Building Tragedy: Man and Wife Die Serving Workers Lunch

BY MWANAHABARI REPORTER

Three people have so far been confirmed dead after their bodies were pulled from the rubble of a building that collapsed in Kisumu’s Mamboleo estate on Monday, September 13.

Reports have confirmed that a man who had accompanied his wife to the construction site to serve workers food at lunch time died together.

The woman is said to have been a regular at the site and would serve construction workers food every lunchtime.

Witnesses said that she had just arrived at the scene accompanied by her husband. The man and the wife died together – at the same spot – with the third body found just next to the couple.

Workers at the site said they did not know where the couple lived – but police were already making efforts to try and identify the couple – and proceed to alert their next of kin.

It was a sad moment especially because the three who were piled together had been communicating with rescuers soon after the building collapsed – but it was a little bit too late to rescue them – as their voices died.

It is not yet clear how many people were trapped in the collapsed building.

So far, rescuers were able to pull from the rubble a mother and her child – and a construction worker.

The mother and the child sustained serious injuries.

Reports indicated that the building had about 50 workers working on it.
