Kadika Girls in Mourning as School Driver Dies in His Sleep

A school driver attached to Kadika Girls in Migori County died on Saturday, August 7 in his sleep.

Sources told Mwanahabari.co.ke that Mike – as he was popularly known among students and the subordinate staff – did not wake up from his sleep on Saturday morning – despite frantic effort by his family to wake him up.

“Mike is said to have been okay the previous day and night… and even woke up at around 1am on Saturday to escort his eldest daughter to the latrine outside the house, before both returned to sleep,” a source who did not wish to be named said.

It was, however, not until morning that the wife became concerned after her husband – who lay next to her the whole night – failed to wake up.

Her attempts to wake him up remained futile – forcing her to raise alarm.

“Mike was of good health… and he looked just fine. His sudden death has shocked us very much,” a neighbour told Mwanahabari.co.ke.

The body was picked by police officers from Migori Station and taken to the morgue.

Former and current students have mourned the driver as a kind-hearted man who never hesitated to help students who were in need.

“Mike bought me bread one time when I was dying of hunger in school. I just approached him and told him that I had no pocket money… and I was hungry to the bone. He helped me. This is a painful loss to the school and to the family,” a former student told Mwanahabari.co.ke.

Mike had been attached to Kadika Girls as a driver for over 20 years.
