Students from two schools in a village in Kitutu Masaba will not be learning today, Monday, August 2, as former MP Timothy Bosire’s wife is set to be buried.
The learners were asked to stay at home for a day as facilities in the school will be used to host hundreds of high voltage guests expected to attend the funeral.
St Patrick’s Nyamwanga Secondary and Nyamwanga Primary Schools suspended learning as their grounds were to be used to host the funeral event.
Bosire who is the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) National Treasurer lives adjacent to the two schools.
“The home of Bosire is just next to the school. Those affected by the death are parents of the school including their children. Even that notwithstanding, learners could not withstand the noise of choppers and public address systems from the funeral,” Walter Monayi, a parent in one of the schools told the media.
A lot of disturbance
He said the decision was arrived as it emerged there would be a lot of disturbance from the outside which could affect learning – which is why the learners were asked to stay at home.
Some of the leaders expected at the funeral are ODM leader Raila Odinga and other politicians from Nyanza and Western.
Others are MPs Joash Nyamoko (North Mugirango), Jerusha Momanyi (Woman MP), Ben Momanyi (Borabu), Vincent Kemosi (West Mugirango) and Shadrack Mose who will be their host.
A total of 400 guests are expected at the funeral – this is despite the fact that Ministry of Health Covid-19 prevention protocols require number of mourners not to exceed 50 in any funeral.
The late Jane Bosire died at the Nairobi Hospital while undergoing medication following prolonged illness.
