There can only be one Nelson Havi. The man who just recently was part of a top drawer legal team that drove the final nail on the Building Bridges Initiative coffin at the Appeals Court.
An now – Nelson Havi will be fighting at the corner of the hundreds of Kenyan teachers who feel disillusioned by the recent move by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) requiring teachers to undergo training every five years.
Havi will seek to challenge the impending roll out refresher courses for the 340,000 teachers across the country.
The teachers would be required to pay Ksh6,000 yearly for five years for training – something many have questioned.
The Law Society of Kenya president had initially turned down a request by the teacher’s representatives to represent them in the case – arguing that they had failed to protect former KNUT boss Wilson Sossion.
I have changed my mind
However, on Sunday, September 26, a vibrant Havi expressed his desire to represent the teachers.
Havi said in a tweet: “I have changed my mind. I will act for teachers to challenge the oppressive Teacher Professional Development Programme imposed by the TSC.”
“After reflecting on what would have been good for my late father and my mother, both of whom were great teachers, I have changed my mind. I will act for teachers to challenge the oppressive Teacher Professional Development Programme imposed by the TSC. Let us get started. ^DoS — Nelson Havi (@NelsonHavi) September 26, 2021
The lawyer just recently filed a petition in court challenging the implementation of the Competence-Based Curriculum. The Ministry of education and TSC should prepare for a epic battle from the man who has expressed interest in the Westlands Constituency parliament seat in the 2022 General Election.
