Police in Eldoret have arrested an ex-convict John Kirwa, who has been linked to the bizarre killing of a 33-year old woman whose body was found in her rental house with the head missing.

Also in police custody is a boda boda rider Solomon Kemboi, who was hired by the suspected killer to help transport the woman’s head and dump it to a fast flowing river.

The murder suspect who was released from prison recently was seized from his hideout by a team of police officers following a tip off from members of the public.

Turbo sub county police commander Edward Masibo who confirmed the bizarre incident said they are yet to recover the head of the deceased identified as Sheila Jepkemboi who is a mother of three children.

“We are holding the prime suspect in the murder and his accomplice, the boda boda rider at Eldoret central police station custody in connection with the murder a woman,” said Masibo.

The police chief said the suspect is said to have killed the woman using a machete in what is suspected to be a love triangle by chopping off her head after coming from a drinking spree.

He then hired the motorcycle operator to help him dispose of the head by transporting it to a nearby river situated along the border of Uasin Gishu and Nandi counties.

“Efforts to retrieve the woman’s head from the river are being hampered by pounding rainfall but we hope to succeed in our rescue mission once the rain subsides,” said Masibo.

According to Masibo, the slain woman had separated from her estranged husband and relocated to Kivola trading centre where she had rented a one bedroomed house.

He said that an Eldoret court has allowed the police to hold the two suspects for 20 days pending completion of investigations into the murder incident and also recovery of the woman’s head.

“We are rushing against time to ensure that the head is retrieved from the river and also complete our investigations into the bizarre incident,” said Masibo.
