Police Gun Down Gangster Linked to Shooting of School Girl

Police in Eldoret shot and killed one suspected gangster at Dola milling factory along the Eldoret-Nairobi inter-section and recovered one AK47 rifle and 47 rounds of ammunition during a twenty minutes daring day time exchange of fire.

The slain gangster was in a group of two others who escaped the police dragnet on a motor bike en-route to a robbery mission when they were
accosted by the officers attached to the directorate of the criminal investigation department after getting a tip off from members of the public.

“Our officers gave a chase and got up with them near Dola milling factory where one gangster was fatally shot dead while his accomplice managed to escape on the motor bike with injuries sustained from gun shots,”  said Ali.

Confirming the incident, Uasin Gishu County Police Commander Ayub Ali said the three suspects who have been on the police radar in connection with several violent robbery activities in the town and its surrounding were trailed from Kipkaren estate where they live in a rental house.

“Our officers trailed them from Kipkaren to up to the town’s central business district and on learning that our officers were hot on their heels that they drove off towards Eldoret-Nairobi inter-section while shooting in the air. That is when one of them was gunned down and his
accomplices managed to escape the dragnet,” said Ali.

The police, he said, transported the slain gangster’s body to Moi Teaching and Referral hospital mortuary adding that they have launched a serious man-hunt for his accomplices who are still at large.

The police chief said they had received intelligence to the effect that the suspected gangsters were going to get more supply of rounds of ammunition to be used to carry out deadly robbery in various business premises in the area.

According to Ali, the same gang was linked to last week’s deadly robbery attack at a supermarket in Huruma estate along the Eldoret-Webuye highway where they stole goods worth millions of shillings.

He said the gang was also linked to the shooting of a primary school girl in the estate leaving her with serious gunshot wounds noting that security has been heightened in areas where the suspects have been carrying out robbery and other criminal activities
