Football betting is a common pass-time in Kenya. Thousands of Kenyans make money betting – while many others either lose or just don’t make any profits.
There is money in sports betting. However, as a bettor, you must learn to approach betting with an open mind – and knowledge.
Here are some of the things you need to do especially if you are just starting on betting.
1. Avoid sports you don’t understand
Why would you want to bet on volleyball, horse racing or hockey when you know all too well that you have no idea what these games entail? Just don’t bet on games you have no knowledge about. Stick with what you know best unless you want to lose your money.
2. Bet with your head, not your heart
Our emotions have a way of getting ahead of us whenever we are placing that bet. Avoid the temptation to use your heart or instinct when placing a bet. Of course you have your favorite team, but the mere fact that you support a team, and would love them to win, does not mean that you are going to win always. Use your head – and informed knowledge – not some baseless emotions to bet. You would rather just avoid betting on teams that you are really attached to emotionally.
3. Don’t you chase wins after losing
All of us have some bad days in the office – and good days as well. It’s the same thing with betting. If you lose, and lose again, stop for the day and just relax. Do not try to throw money after money trying to win money you have just lost. You are not in the best frame of mind to make informed decisions once you have lost a bet. Do not make a bad situation worse when your losses double (or triple) as you attempt to get back to evens.
4. Set a budget and stick to it
Bet on a budget. Do not just bet. Set aside money for betting – and this should be money you can afford to lose without you losing your head – and stick to it. Set aside a specific amount to bet with and don’t go over if you wan to a void trouble.
5. Avoid teams you don’t know
If you don’t know much a bout a team, it would be wise to avoid them like plague. Don’t just bet on a game because there is nothing to bet on. Stick to the teams you know and understand their game, structure and pattern. Just because there is a game on a Tuesday night doesn’t mean you have to put your money on it. If you do, you’re setting yourself up for serious losses.
