Football betting: Away games are hard bets to win

Kenyans love to bet both as a fun activity and as an investment. The truth is that no one bets to lose money. People – or rather investors as Kenyans love to call themselves – bet to win money.

A good bettor knows that that bookmakers will give a price for the Home Win, Draw and Away Win before any game begins. The average Away price is the average price for a team’s away wins. So, if they won 6 times AWAY, the prematch odds for those 6 games are added together and divided by 6, to get an average.

Away wins are hard bets to win – that cannot be doubted. Often, teams don’t win away as much as they win at home, which is why you must be careful when placing an away bet.

Of course this does not mean you can’t win, only that the risk is higher when betting on away wins.
Sports teams often perform better at home than when they are away. Based on statistics, football has the largest home advantage of any sport.

In the 2016/17 Premier League season: 607 home goals scored, 457 away goals, 49.2 per cent of games won by the home team, 28.7 per cent of games won by the away team and 22.1 per cent of games ended in a draw.

Home teams have always scored more goals and won more games than the away team.

A research that analysed nearly 9,000 international matches between 1993 and 2004 found that international home sides won 50.5 per cent of games, with the away team winning 24.5 per cent and the draw occurring 25 per cent of the time.
