Gor Mahia FC who have just booked a spot in the Caf Championships may be forced to negotiate a deal with some of the players whose contracts it terminated illegally.
This will save the club from unnecessary trouble with continental football governing body CAF and FIFA.
There is a general fear that Gor’s decision to terminate its contract with certain players could comeback to bite 13-time league champions if nothing is done – especially now that they are eyeing African Championships.
Not long ago, Gor were found culpable for terminating Dickson Ambundo’s contract illegally, and the the player was Ksh 1.3 million by the continental football governing body.
Football Kenya Federation (FKF) CEO Barry Otieno expressed fears that K’Ogalo could find itself in trouble if does not reach out to some of the players who may had their contracts terminated.
Not long ago, similar sanctions were imposed on AFC Leopards and Wazito FC for breaching players’ contracts.
“It’s very important for the clubs to reach an agreement with the affected parties in order for them to avoid further sanctions from the football governing bodies. I want to believe the three clubs are very much willing to hold the talks and come to terms with the way they will sort out the payments.
“Football has been greatly affected by the coronavirus pandemic and I want to believe that even the governing bodies will understand the current state of financial struggles in the country and around the globe,” Barry said.
