Defiant FKF To proceed with league resumption, Friday

The match between Kakamega Homeboyz and Kariobangi Sharks at the Utalii Grounds will mark the official resumption of sports in the country after Football Kenya Federation (FKF) released the fixtures even as the Ministries of Health and Sports work round the clock to draft health regulations.

Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed on Thursday, May 13 confirmed to Mwanahabari.co.ke that the health guidelines should be out any time as directed by President Uhuru Kenyatta on May 12, 2021

The president, while lifting the restriction of movement order, gave the green light on the return of sports, but directed the Ministries of Health and Sports to draw up guidelines that should be observed by clubs and players.

“We are working on the protocols together with the Ministry of Health and if we finalize everything by the end of the day then it will be possible for the league to resume tomorrow,” Amina.

But FKF has since gone ahead to release the fixtures with a top federation official insisting that the matches will go as planned even without the guidelines in place.

“We will go with the matches,” said the official who asked not to be named.

The federation has earmarked the Narok, World Hope, Utalii and Ruaraka Ground as the venues for the matches.

Gor Mahia will take on Nairobi City Stars on Saturday with Sofapaka playing Wazito.

Four other matches are also scheduled to take place on Saturday before perennial Kenya Premier League champions Gor Mahia take on Nairobi City Stars on Sunday, May 16, 2021. Sofapaka will take on Wazito the same day.
