A peasant farmer shocked the packed court by pleading guilty to killing two people among them a woman when he appeared before Justice Eric Ogolla of the High Court in Eldoret.
Meshack Korir who spoke confidently, admitted that he butchered to death his victims, namely Brenda Ivyne and Hesobon Kipkurui.
He claimed that he killed his first victim on the fateful day of March 25, 2022 at the Kapsiele village in Nandi County.
The suspect who looked composed in the dock, was further charged with attacking the second victim with a machete on the same date and place, killing him on the spot.
But upon realizing his mistake of entering plea of guilty to murder charge, requested the court to give him ten minutes to rethink his decision.
“Your honour, I request to be given ten minutes to rethink my decision on the charge that I am facing,” Korir told the Judge.
Justice Ogolla, however, gave him a chance to rethink his decision to plead guilty to the charge he had entered in both counts over the brutal killing of his two victims.
The suspect was then taken to court cells to consult with his lawyer who declined to be named.
When he came back, the charges were read a second time to him and he denied saying he never committed the criminal offence.
The Judge set the mention of the case on June 29 when the probation officer’s report will be presented at Kapsabet court.
In the same court, Cleophas Korir who pleaded guilty to killing his neighbor, later changed his mind and denied that he never committed
the offence.
The suspect faced the charge of killing Emily Chepkorir in an incident which occured on the fateful day of March 31st this year in Tinderet area, Nandi county.
The Judge directed that the matter be mentioned on June 29.
