A female traffic officer who had rushed to an accident scene to help free victims on Mombasa Road was rammed by a third car killing her.
The accident occurred on Sunday morning, September 26, along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway.
According to witnesses, a Mercedes Benz truck lost control before overturning near a petrol station in Athi River, Machakos County.
The truck which was loaded with goods had the whole of it scattered on the road in the midnight accident.
The truck tumbled over and strayed to the opposite side of the dual carriageway before resting in the middle of the road.
Landing on the ditch
A few minutes after the accident, a second car of Nissan Sunny make hit a heap of the load that was left sitting on the road after the accident – and rolled over before lading on the ditch.
The female officer who had arrived at the scene rushed to save the occupant of the second vehicle – but sadly – a third vehicle, a Mazda – hit the same pile and veered off the road before hitting the officer, killing her.
“The driver lost control and hit the corporal who died on the spot,” the police report stated.
The officer’s body was rushed to Machakos Level 5 Hospital morgue.
Police have began investigations.
