Many are asking why I didn’t attend the 58th Madaraka day, why I did not even make a poster.
Here are some of my reasons.
As a patriotic citizen, an independent thinker and as a politically independent youth leader I must say the following as a youth for we have nothing to celebrate.
It’s sad that we’re celebrating 58 years of abject poverty, illiteracy, ignorance, diseases and high mortality rates even from diseases that can easily be controlled . The youths are witnessing “celebrations” for 58 years of deliberate side-lining of youths in almost all sectors. Every year nearly 500, 000 youths graduates from tertiary institutions ready to get into the job market and 75% of them still remains unemployed.
Public health sector is still a mess with billions being looted annually as it has always been reported.
Only 12% of the health facilities are youth friendly, with the uneven distribution in the country continuing to widen the disparities in affordability and access to medical care. statistics shows that only 42% of the entire population has access to medical facilities within 4km and 75% within 8km.
Medical personnel are also few to address the health needs of the population let alone those of youths with 1 doctor for 33000 people in the rural areas and 1700 in the urban area.
We have mandated institutions who execute their responsibilities politically and not for the best interest of the public.
Ksh2 billion is being stolen daily and till today the highly supported EACC, DCI and DPP haven’t told us who steals this money.
We collect 1.6 Trillion of revenue annually and 30% of it is lost to corruption, the auditor general is on record saying this.
Youth branded platforms where youths can speak powerfully, take appropriate action and inspire belief that will have a catalytic impact all over the country through youth led development initiatives have been infiltrated and dominated by senior citizens representing “special interests” where the youth voices are muffled up.
I can’t continue writing but I must say am unhappy just as the majority of the population.
