Who is Kimani: The Kenyan Who Shocked Putin, & Had Uhuru Kenyatta as Referee in His CV

Martin Kimani shocked the world after he boldly told off Russian President Vladimir Putin for invading Ukraine.

Kimani – who is Kenya’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN) gave a well articulated speech that got instant attention of Putin, and the world.

But what many don’t remember, that Kimani is a gifted hand on matters diplomacy.

Did you know that Kimani in October 2020 shocked parliament with his Curriculum Vitae (CV) which had President Uhuru Kenyatta as one of his referees?

Well, now you know, and so does Putin.

Kimani asked Putin to respect Ukraine’s borders after a tough talking Russian boss invaded Ukraine.

 

Positions he has held

1.Kenya’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN) in December 2020.

2. Worked at the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat).

3. Served as Director of Kenya’s National Counterterrorism Centre and Special Envoy for Countering Violent Extremism.

4. Director at the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Conflict Early Warning and Response Mechanism in Ethiopia between April 2011 and December 2012.

5. The 2013 Distinguished African Visiting Fellow at the South African Institute of International Affairs.

 

Education

  • Holds an undergraduate degree at the University of New Hampshire (1996).
  • He also holds a Master’s Degree in War Studies from the University of London (2003)
  • Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from King’s College (2013)
  • A Fellow of the African Leadership Initiative and the Aspen Global Leadership Program. He was also the 2013 Distinguished African Visiting Fellow at the South African Institute of International Affairs.
