A 15-year-old Form One student shocked an Eldoret court on Wednesday, January 19 as she recounted how a watchman has allegedly been tying her to his bed before defiling her night after night – impregnating her.
The girl who was reportedly rescued by a village elder narrated how the the suspect, Douglas Kagai, aged 30 years, masqueraded as a police officer and had promised her a job at the Eldoret Central Police station.
The court heard that the suspect defiled the minor inside his rental house at Kamukunji estate in the outskirts of Eldoret town.
Statements available in court file indicated that the accused had been locking the minor in his house during daytime since April 2019 as he went to his work station in town.
The court heard that the accused capitalized on the plight of the minor who had escaped from her parents’ home due to alleged mistreatment.
Police said that the suspect took the girl from a church where she used to sleep at night after escaping from her parents with a promise of a job only to turn her into a ‘wife’.
The victim told the court the accused could only allow her to go for calls of nature either at night or very early in the morning to avoid attracting the attention of neighbours.
She claimed that she would spend the rest of her day in the house as the suspect went to work.
Mr Kagai was charged with defiling the minor on diverse dates between April 8, 2019 to February 29, 2020.
He, however, denied the charge before Eldoret Principal Magistrate Richard Odenyo.
The accused who has been unable to raise bond is currently detained at Eldoret GK remand prison.
The minor as taken to Huruma Children rescue Center in Eldoret where she is being hosted.
A doctor from Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital who handled the case told the court that the minor who has tested positive to pregnant test is due to deliver in a few months’ time.
Hearing of the case will continue on May 18.
