Uhuru’s Message to Newly Sworn in Judges

President Uhuru Kenyatta presided over the swearing in ceremony of the 34 judges whose appointments were gazetted.

Speaking at State House where the ceremony was conducted President Kenyatta reminded the jurists of their obligation and duty to Kenyans.

“Let me begin by saying to the newly appointed judges. I congratulate you individually and collectively on your appointments.

“Indeed, as you assume your respective, high offices, as judges of the Court of Appeal, the Environment and Land Court, and the Employment and Labor Relations Court, mine is to ask you to serve the people of Kenya with unfailing integrity and commitment, “ he started.

He advised that their actions and decisions should be guided solely on the unbiased and faithful application of the Constitution.
The head of state described the judges as the bastions of justice, defenders of liberty, instruments of law and order, guardians of the rule of law and the embodiment and of the hopes and dreams of Kenyans.

“Just like you today, I took an oath to both the letter and the spirit of the law and it is not open to me to turn a blind eye to reports of our state organs.

“As long as I serve as president, I will choose the right over the convenient. I will choose the hard over the easy, and I’m not doing this for myself, but for the people of Kenya and for posterity,” he told them.

As he concluded his remarks, Uhuru reminded all those who are honoured to serve the nation in the Judiciary, the Executive or the Legislature that they have a collective duty to serve 50 million Kenyans.

We are one government bound together by our common duty to deliver hopes and dreams. May God bless you, guide and lead you as you go about your service to the people of our nation and may God bless Kenya,” the head of state said.
