Top Citizen TV journalist Francis Gachuri is said to be leaving Royal Media Services (RMS) to join the Interior Ministry as Head of Communications.

Mr. Gachuri served as Political Editor, a position that saw him interact with the who is who in the political space.

This moves comes at a time when the spotlight is on the Interior Ministry as it seeks to neutralize banditry in the Northern parts of the country.

A top placed journalist from the media company confirmed the news to Wananchi Reporting.

“It is true that he is going. That’s the story in the newsroom at the moment and it’s true. He has been an asset at Citizen, a very dedicated man,” said the source.

In a phone call with a local news website, Gachuri did not deny or confirm the reports, but promised to issue a communication soon.

Mr. Gachuri will not be the first journalist from the leading media company to be poached by government, proof that Royal Media has some of the top drawer personnel.

Former Royal Media Director Faridah Karoney left the media house to head the tricky Lands Ministry as the Cabinet Secretary. Former Citizen Television news anchor Hussein Mohamed is the current State House Spokesperson, and he replaced yet another former Royal Media employee Kanze Dena-Mararo.
