The Kenya national anthem will be the last to be played in Tokyo Olympics as the event comes to an end today, Sunday, August 8.
This is after Kenyan marathoner Eliud Kipchoge won the marathon on Sunday – a second time in a row after winning the same event in Brazil five years ago.
It might interest you to note that Kenya’s national anthem was the last to be played in Rio, Brazil during the 2016 Olympics courtesy of world marathon record holder Eliud Kipchoge.
In 2016, Kipchoge won Olympic gold medal and he had to be awarded the medal before the closing ceremony at the iconic Maracana Stadium.
At 37 years of age, Kipchoge is not expected to race at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, but the fact that he has made the Kenyan national anthem almost a permanent fixture in two successive Olympics is quite refreshing.
Kenya finished 19th in the world in the Tokyo games (but topped Africa) after collecting 3 gold medals in an event that was won by United States of Africa.
