A Kenyan mother has every reason to smile after well-wishers across the globe collected the KSh240 million needed for her child’s treatment.
The family of baby Ayah Lundt, born to a Kenyan mother and Danish father, could not hide their smiles after reaching the target after months of fund-raising.
Baby Ayah was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) – and which saw her begin showing signs of slowed growth at nine months of age.
According to doctors, Baby Ayah needed the world’s most expensive drug identified as Zolgensma to treat her condition.
The genetic condition affects one in every 10,000 children.
“After 33 weeks of sleepless nights and tears, we are here!!! We want to thank God for bringing us this far, for blessing us immensely even when we fall short of His glory, for guiding us and getting us here. For health and wealth.”
“To our family and friends… You were the very first to know, we requested for your support, and you went all out for us, you fought for Ayah like your own, even when the world didn’t know about SMA or couldn’t fathom a single treatment could cost millions of dollars!! Thank you for standing with us and helping us create a network and a community!” read the Instagram post.
Baby Ayah who is now one and a half years old will have to be treated before she reaches two years of age, when she would no longer be eligible for the treatment.
