The National Insurance Fund (NHIF) has has issued Siaya County Government with a 14-day notice to submit Ksh63 million it reportedly deducted from staff but failed to forward to the insurance body.

In a letter seen by Mwanahabari.co.ke, NHIF tabulated the total amount owed.

The letter stated that monthly contributions detailed below were not paid within the period and manner prescribed under section 15 (4), consequently the late payment attracted a penalty pursuant to section 18 (1) and (2) of the NHIF Act  No 9 of 1998.

The whole amount accrued between August 31, 2020 to July 8, 2021.

Ksh600 million fraud

This comes just days after a list went round on social media of a section of Siaya MCAs who had allegedly been given bribes of up to Ksh 290,000 each by the governor’s office to cover up on alleged misappropriation of at least Ksh 600 million.

West Asembo MCA Ambrose Akunohas admitted to receiving a bribe from the Governor’s office to conceal corruption issues in the county.

The Siaya MCAs were allegedly given the bribes after they refused to pass the County’s Appropriation Bill for the year ending 2020/2021 after it emerged that there was no explanation as to why bursaries had not been released, Project Management Committee (PMC) monies not paid and statutory deductions not remitted.
