Sadness and gloom has engulfed the medical fraternity after a female doctor committed suicide at the at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) parking lot.
The doctor whom police identified as Lydia Wahura, a medical student at the University of Nairobi College of Health Sciences is said to have injected herself with anesthesia inside her car – taking her own life.
Police found ketamine and midazolam next to her lifeless body – as well as a syringe still attached to her arm.
Reports indicated that the doctor left behind a suicide note – but whose content the police declined to make public as it is subject to investigations.
The police are keen on carrying tests around the note to ascertain if indeed she was the author.
Dr Wahura is said to have contacted her family and informed them about her intention to end her own life – besides informing them where they would find her body.
It was not until 1 pm that the Head of Security at the School of Medicine, George Onyango found her body lying on the back seat of the car.
Kilimani police commander Andrew Muturi confirmed the incident and stated that they were in possession of the alleged suicide note and other paraphernalia which will be subjected to analysis.
Dr Wahura’s body was taken to the Chiromo mortuary awaiting postmortem.
