Deputy President William Ruto on Monday, August 9, placed a phone call to turkey to speak with deported businessman Harun Aydin – and offered his apologies.
“Just talked and apologized on behalf of GoK to Aydin Harun, now in Turkey, who was politically arrested, tortured and falsely profiled as a ‘terrorist’ but later asked to fly out not to shame those involved. Political pettiness is expensive/dangerous and will destroy our economy. SHAME.” Ruto tweeted.
The tweet came just a few hours after Aydin was deported from the country after being accused of funding terrorism.
Aydin was deported at 3am through Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
He was arrested on Saturday, August 7, after landing at the Wilson Airport from Uganda.
The arrest and detention of the Turkish businessman continued to generate debate.
He spent the second day in police custody with reports indicating that he was to be arraigned at the Kahawa West Law Courts on Monday.
