A 23-year-old Moi University student was on Thursday, May 20, 2021, charged with defiling a 15-year-old girl.
Nelson Kuchio, who is a final year student of law at the Annex campus, denied the charges before Principal Magistrate Naomi Wairimu.
Kuchio was accused of defiling the minor on the diverse dates between May 7 and 14, 2021, at Annex estate within Kapseret Sub County in Uasin Gishu county, contrary to section 8 (3) of sexual offences Act number 3 0f 2006.
The victim’s parents are said to have reported about their missing daughter at the Eldoret police station. The girl is said to have gone missing for one week without any clue of her whereabouts.
Investigation officer Gladys Chelimo, attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Eldoret told the court that the suspect was arrested after the report linking him to the disappearance of the minor was filed at the police station.
The victim was rescued and taken to hospital for medical examination following a thorough search by the police detectives.
Through his lawyer, the accused pleaded with the court to release him on a lenient bond terms, with an alternative of cash bail as he is a student.
“If the court would release the accused on a cash bail of at least Ksh50, 000 equivalent to cash bail that was deposited at the police station after his arrest as a police bond, I will appreciate it, “pleaded the accused through his lawyer.
The prosecution did not object to a request for the accused to be released on bond.
Eldoret Principal Magistrate granted the accused a cash bail of Sh50,000.
The matter will be heard on June 17.
