A new twist has developed in the story of the Strathmore university student who just recently walked home after missing for nearly three weeks.
The family has now claimed that their daughter was being held in a her man’s house in Athi River – where she had been denied access to a phone for the entire period she was allegedly missing.
Maureen Musungu 23, a third-year Bachelor of Business and Information Technology student, walked back home in Karen on June 4 after going missing on May 21.
“We are happy she came back this morning God is great, but she is very sick, let us take her to the hospital first before we can speak to the media,” a family member told Standard.
Maureen was reported missing by her family prompting a search by the police.
According to her family, their daughter left home to meet with her friends in Nairobi’s central business district.
It is reported that her mobile phone was later switched off at around 8:30am on the day she reportedly went missing, and any attempt to reach her remained futile.
“My sister came back home, but she looks weak, so we have taken her to the hospital,” her brother told The Standard before hunging up.
The search was conducted in Utawala, Embakasi, Athi River, Rongai, Gataka, Ngong, Karen and Ngong Road – but could not be traced until she returned home.
“She did not give clear information on who the friends were. However, in the evening, I called her and she said she was in Utawala. Her phone went off before she could pin the exact location at around 8:30pm,” her brother told Nation.
