The body of an 8-year-old school girl who had been missing for one week was found dumped in a thicket in Kitengela.
According to her parents, Shantel Nzembi disappeared on Saturday last week while playing out with friends.
”My daughter left the house to play with her friends. I thought she was just within the compound playing, but then she failed to return home by evening,” said the girl’s mother Christine Ngima.
Police are investigating the incident after Ngima said she had received strange calls from people asking her to send them money if she wanted to see her daughter alive again.
”Since Saturday I have received many calls from people claiming that they know where my daughter is, however, the amount of money they are asking for is unbelievable,’’ Ngima had said, noting that the people asked her for Ksh 300,000.
The body of the girl was found in the Orata area, wrapped in a sack with multiple injuries.
Police have promised to investigate the matter and bring the abductors to book even as resident’s raised concerns over rising insecurity.
The first few hours are critical
The first few hours are the most critical in missing-child cases. So it’s important to contact your local police and give them information about your child right away.
They’ll ask you for a recent picture of your child, what your child was wearing, and details about when and where you last saw your child.
After notifying the authorities, try to stay calm. You’ll be able to remember details about your child’s disappearance more easily if you do.
Where your child is likely to be abducted
Your child is likely to be kidnapped in crowded places. These would include supermarkets, church grounds, public/estate playing grounds, the parking lot, the bus station. As such, parents re advised to always watch their children when out in the public.
