Motorists planning have been informed about the impending closure of certain roads as Kenya readies itself to host the WRC Kenya Safari Rally championship.
“Pursuant to section 69 (b) of the Traffic Act of the laws of Kenya, notice is given that the following public roads (aforementioned) will be closed to all heavy commercial vehicles weighing 3 tonnes and above to guarantee safe and secure operation of the World Rally Championships (WRC) Safari Rally Kenya, 2021.
“After 0600hrs, all heavy commercial vehicles weighing 3 tonnes and above are required to park at the nearest designated parking and await the above road opening time,” read the notice in part.
“The public is further notified that the following underlisted road (Kikopey–Elementaita Village road) will be closed to all users to guarantee and secure operation of the World Rally Championships (WRC) Safari Rally Kenya, 2021,” read the statement in a Gazette notice dated Friday, June 18.
Also to be closed is the Kikopey–Elementaita Village road which will be closed for all vehicles between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m on Friday, June 25 and Saturday, June 26.
Trucks weighing over 3 tonnes will be barred from accessing five major highways between 12:00 a.m. and 7 p.m. on select days.
On Eldoret–Nakuru Highway, trucks will be expected to park at the nearest designated parking on Thursday, June 24 while on Kericho–Nakuru Highway, the exercise will take place on Friday, June 25.
For Nyahururu–Nakuru Highway, the exercise will take place on Saturday, June 26 and along Mombasa–Nairobi–Mai Mahiu–Naivasha Highway, trucks will be barred access on Sunday, June 27.
The dates were not specified for Narok–Mai Mahiu road.
