A Kisii University student is alleged to have committed suicide on Wednesday, May 19, at the college premises.
The student identified as Kevin Ombachi was pursuing clinical medicine at the institution.
It was not clear what may have prompted the student to take his life, but some of his colleagues said that Ombachi had often complained that life had become unbearable.
Ombachi’s body was found hanging from the roof – with the rope tied severally round his neck.
The police have taken over the matter and will be conducting investigations to try and find out what may have led the student to suicide.
There have been rising cases of suicide and murders especially during this period of the pandemic that has left many families grappling with job losses, deaths and other forms of emotional tortures.
The Ministry of Health took notice of the trend in 2020 and went on to encourage those dealing will mental illness to seek help.
The incident comes just weeks after a First-Year student at Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) in Kisii committed suicide after he found his girlfriend in the arms of another man.
