Kiambu Businessman Found Dead in Lodging, Woman Arrested

A young woman is in police custody after a man she had spent time with at a lodging house was found dead on Saturday, July 31.

The man whose body was found lying in a room he had booked with the aid woman has been identified as Moses Muiruri, a 47-year-old businessman in Kiambu.

Muiruri, who sold pigs in Kiambu, was found dead in Room Number 7 at the Hotel Konteina in Kiambu Town – in an incident that has left residents in shock.

According to Police in Ndumberi, Kiambu County, Muiruri’s body was found with blood oozing from his mouth.

The body was discovered at 9am by the hotel attendants who had gone to clean it.

Muiruri’s body was taken to Kenyatta University Funeral Home.

Woman held

Meanwhile, the said woman is being held at the Ndumberi police post as police try to investigate the circumstances under which the businessman may have died.

The deceased reportedly checked into the hotel accompanied by the woman at 4:30am on Saturday, and proceeded to book Room Number 7.

Police, who were alerted of the incident, visited the scene and found Muiruri already died.

“He was lying motionless on bed while naked,” Mohammed said.

He sounded sickly on phone

An employee of Muiruri who had spoken with him on phone hours a few hours before his death said he sounded sickly.

“He was not okay; his voice was dull and he sounded sickly,” the employee told Standard.

“He told me to go to Hotel Konteina where he was, and collect some money. When I arrived there at around 9am, I was shocked to learn that my boss was dead,” added Ngugi.

The employee said that his boss Muiruri often carried large sums of money.

Police said that the businessman had a history of  breathing problems.
