Kenyan Students Studying Medicine Trapped in Ukraine as Putin Attacks

Kenyan students studying in Ukraine are among thousands trapped after Russia attacked the country on February 24.

The students said to be five in number are studying at the Ivan Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University in Ternopil, Ukraine.

A number of many other Kenyan diplomats are trapped in Ukraine as Russian President Vladimir Putin began his unrelenting offensive.

Kwale Woman Representative Zulekha Hassan told parliament that a number of Kenyans were stranded in Ukraine.

“A number of Kenyans have been caught up in this invasion including the five students and many others at the Tanapil National Medical University and other institutions and other workplaces,” she said.

“These Kenyans are already facing movement challenges occasioned by the closure of airports.

“They face the real possibility of inaccessibility to food supplies and communication platforms via imminent internet restrictions in the coming hours and days,” noted Hassan.

The MPs now want the government to evacuate Kenyans from Ternopil and Kyiv cities to safer regions within Ukraine or neighbouring countries.

Ukraine’s ambassador to Kenya Andrii Pravednyk has asked the world to unite and stop Russia.
