Non-motorised Transport in Nairobi

The government through the Nairobi Metropolitan Services has started a campaign to encourage the use of non-motorist transport in Nairobi.

“It increases socio-economic access, decongesting cities, improving air quality and promoting healthier lifestyles. In Nairobi county, nearly half of the residents walk or cycle to access basic services,” NMS Director General Mohammed Badi said during the recent launch of the Non-Motorized Transport (NMT) study report on June 9, 2021.

An estimated 55,000 daily trips in Nairobi are made by cycling.

The lack of cycling lanes and sufficient cycling networks continue to be a challenge in the city.
