Five Top Journalists Set to Leave Standard Media Group

Five top drawer journalists are set to leave The Standard Media group, Kenya’s second largest media house

According to sources, Veteran editor and columnist par excellence, with a penchant for good satire, Mr. Ted Malanda, said his goodbyes to his colleagues sometime last week.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Ted, a career environmentalist and educator, has worked at the Standard for over 10 years.

Until his resignation, Ted was Deputy Editor, weeklies, and managed Crazy Monday and The Nairobian.

Also leaving the Standard is KTN news presenter Najma Ishmael. Najma who started her career at the IQRA FM as a news anchor and reporter, also had stints at Radio Africa, Classic 105 and Kiss 100, before joining KTN as a news anchor/reporter.

Clay Muganda, a top social commentator, critic, satirist, features and lifestyle writer – he also covered cricket extensively – is also leaving. Clay joined the Standard from Nation media group.

Veteran health writer and editor, Mr. Kamau Mutunga, who received a commendation during the 2004 CNN African Journalist of the Year award ceremony in South Africa – for his health reporting – has also shook his hands with his bosses at the Moi-owned business.

Also leaving is news and features editor Amos Kareithi.

Update

Standard Group’s journalist Frank Otieno has also resigned from KTN after 15 years and is sent to leave by February 2023.

Otieno worked as a reporter, senior reporter, Bureau Chief in Kisumu, Editor-Swahili Desk for KTN.
